Default setting!?!? Obviously there are exceptional cases, someone is using a 20 year old computer on dial-up and does not want to overuse the wires? To have this as the default is unacceptable! Actually, I came here to figure out how to slow down my email retrieval to every hour. As a creative, I am needing to minimize the number of distractions that call for my attention all day long so that I actually get work done in the spaces between the pings.
